Therefore, when he [Judas] had gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him. If God be glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will straightway glorify Him. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You shall seek Me, and as I said to the Jews, whither I go you cannot come; so now I say to you. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this shall all know that you are My disciples, if you have love one for another. Simon Peter says to Him, Lord, whither goest Thou? Jesus answered Him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow Me now, but thou shalt follow Me afterwards. Peter says to Him, Lord, why cannot I follow Thee now? I will lay down my soul for Thee. Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy soul for Me? Amen, amen, I say to thee, The cock shall not crow till thou hast denied Me three times. John 13:31-38

There is a comparison made between the men of the church and the Lord Himself in His saying, “He that overcomes, I will give to him to sit with Me on My throne, as I also have overcome and sit with My Father on His throne” (Rev. 3:21), because the Lord’s life in the world was an example according to which the men of the church are to live, as the Lord Himself teaches in John (13:16-17).
