Day 1: February 24

Readings:

And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus was going before them; and they were astonished; and as they followed, they feared. And taking again the twelve, He began to say to them what was going to happen to Him: “Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be delivered up to the chief priests and the scribes; and they shall condemn Him to death, and shall deliver Him up to the Gentiles; and they shall mock Him, and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him, and shall kill Him; and the third day He shall rise again.” (Mark 10:32-34)

That “the Son of man” signifies the Lord in respect to the Word, was the reason why the prophets also were called sons of man. ...The reason the Lord then called Himself “the Son of man,” is that He suffered Himself to be treated in the same way as they had treated the Word. (Doctrine of the Lord 28, 24)

Reflection:

Jesus predicted his mockery and death because the church had already mistreated and perverted the truths of the Word. Have you ever misused the Word to justify or excuse your faults?
