Day 42: April 6 Holy Thursday

Readings:

And there were also women beholding afar off, among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Little and of Joses, and Salome; who also, when He was in Galilee, followed Him and ministered to Him; and many other women who came up with Him unto Jerusalem. (Mark 15:40-41)

By men are signified those who are in truths, and by women those who are in good from the affection for truth. (Apocalypse Explained 555:11)

A woman arrayed with the sun, signifies the church with those who are in love to the Lord, and from that in love towards the neighbor. This is evident from the signification of “woman,” as being the spiritual affection of truth, from which the church is a church. (Apocalypse Explained 707)

Reflection:

Love and Faith are both important and yet love is what conjoins us to the Lord. Men generally symbolize faith while the Women represent love and affection. This is why Women are a key part of the resurrection story, and the women still followed the Lord even to the tomb, and they were first to learn of Jesus’ resurrection.
