“Let Us Now Go to Bethlehem”

And it came to pass, that after the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the men, the shepherds, said one to another, Let us now go even to Bethlehem, and see° this saying that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. And they came in haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe laid in the manger. And° when they had seen°, they made known abroad the saying which was spoken to them concerning this little Child. And all who heard marveled at those things which were spoken to them by the shepherds. But° Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it was spoken to them. (Luke 2:15–20)

To be affected by truths is the same as to wish from affection to know them, and when found, to drink them in from the joy of affection. (Divine Love and Wisdom 404)

The man who is in charity by means of the truth examines thoroughly and sees what ought to be love. (Doctrine of Faith 21)

To become spiritual is to imbue one’s spirit with truths from the Word; and the spirit is not imbued with truths except as it desires to know truth wherever it is in the Word, and delights in it when it sees and perceives it; this affection is the spiritual affection of truth. (Apocalypse Explained 190:2)

In proportion as anyone loves the truth, in the same proportion he desires to know it, and in the same proportion is affected at heart when he finds it. No one else comes into wisdom. (Doctrine of Life 89)
