One of the main things the Lord came into the world to teach us is that there is life after death. This is one of the reasons He allowed Himself to be put to death: so that He could rise again the third day and show Himself to us, alive and well. When the two Mary’s met Him on Easter morning they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him (Matthew 28:9). He ate some fish and a piece of a honeycomb with His disciples (Luke 24:43). Then He commissioned them as eyewitnesses to teach other people about why it was necessary for Christ to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and to preach repentance and remission of sins (Luke 24:46-47).
On the third day after the death of our natural body, the Lord raises us, too, from death into eternal life (see Hosea 6:2). Our natural body is like a heavy winter coat, very useful for working outside in the winter. But when it is time, the Lord helps us take off the heavy coat and He raises us into the spiritual world. “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself” (John 12:32). “I go to prepare a place for you… that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2-3). “Because I live, you shall live also.” (John 14:19).
A recent bestseller, Proof of Heaven, tells a neurosurgeon’s wonderful experiences while his cerebral cortex had no activity. This helped him know and believe that there is life after the death of the natural body, a life apart from the life of the natural body. This book along with many others gives evidence of life beyond this natural world. These testimonies can be a useful confirmation of the teachings and the promise that our Lord Himself gives us in His Word.
In spirit we too can come to Jesus and hold Him by the feet and worship Him. We can trust in Him. We can repent of our sins toward Him and one another. That way He can send those sins into remission, setting us free from them. If we do this work, wearing our heavy winter coat, we will be ready for a beautiful springtime in heaven with Him.
Come and worship Him on Easter or any Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Kempton New Church. Happy Easter!
